Thomas and Oliver is the third episode of Season 2 of Thomas: The Trainz Adventures and the thirteenth episode overall.
Plot[]
With little activity on the Little Western, Oliver and his coaches, Isabel and Dulcie, are sent to help out on the Ffarquhar Branchline. Upon arrival, Oliver greets Thomas, but he doesn’t in return. Oliver later meets Percy and Toby, and welcome him warmly. He also gets the chance to know Glynn.
Oliver works passenger trains with his coaches and is always on time. However, his success begins to make Thomas jealous. Percy points this out one day while they wait for Oliver to pass. Thomas remarks how he is always on time and doesn’t need to be in the middle of the train to do so.
That night at the sheds, Oliver tells Glynn about how he escaped from his old manager after being kidnapped. Thomas steams out, reasoning that he can’t get any sleep while the others are exchanging stories. The others are confused, before Percy asks Toby to tell how Philip thought Toby was a diesel. Thomas eventually finds a new shed and goes to sleep there.
The next morning, he is ten minutes late to take his train. He brings Annie and Clarabel to the platform, but as the guard blows the whistle, Thomas begins to go backwards. He doesn’t shop before crashing through some buffers at the end of the line. Percy later arrives to rescue him, while his driver apologies for letting his reverser stay on, being the cause of Thomas’ reversal.
Percy is assigned to take Thomas train while he is repaired. Once he’s fixed, he is assigned to take Percy’s trucks from the quarry. Before departing, Toby warns of an incoming storm. The weather picks up once Thomas gets going with the train.
At Dryaw Airfield, the power has run out while Tiger Moth is on approach. The tower warns the pilot of the power being shut off, which includes the runway lights. Tiger Moth is unable to divert to Sodor Airport.
Thomas approaches the airfield and is stopped by a signalman who explains the situation. Just as Oliver arrives, Thomas gets an idea to use both his and Oliver’s lamps as substitute runway lights. An airfield worker agrees to the idea, and it pays of, as Tiger Moth lands successfully. Thomas apologises to Oliver, who assures him that everyone is good at something and that Thomas is equally good with his coaches as Oliver is his. The two depart with their respective trains, having made amends.
The next day, Oliver and his coaches head home, with Thomas and the other Ffarquhar engines seeing them off. Back on the Little Western, Donald and Douglas ask Oliver about his experience, which Oliver gladly shares with them.
