Calm Before the Norm is the fourth episode of Season 3 of Thomas: The Trainz Adventures and the twenty-fourth episode overall.

Plot[]

One day, Dennis is resting in a shed at Knapford yards when Percy arrives with the Fat Controller. He asks Dennis to take some trucks that are meant to be on The Flying Kipper, which Dennis accepts. After the Fat Controller departs, Dennis slowly makes his way to collect the trucks.

On his way to Vicarstown to collect the trucks, he starts to think of an excuse for not doing his work and gets an idea when he spots his brother, Norman, heading in the opposite direction. They stop and he explains that he isn’t feeling well and asks if Norman can take the trucks to Brendam, which Norman accepts and tells him to go to the Dieselworks to get looked over. Norman arrives at Vicarstown some time later and explains the situation for Rosie before he takes the trucks to Brendam. On the way there, his engines starts to splutter and he grows worried that he might not make it. However, once he arrives, Salty assures him that he is on time, much to Norman’s relief.

That night, he visits Dennis at the shed at Knapford yards and asks if he was looked over. Dennis tells him that Den checked him over and asked him to rest for a while. He then asks Norman if he can take his next train tomorrow, which are some oil tankers bound for a train to the Mainland. Norman accepts, noting that he doesn’t have a train before the afternoon.

The next day, Norman collects the oil tankers in the yards, to much skepticism from both Charlie and Stanley, who secretly knows that Dennis is being lazy and has Norman do all his work.

Norman heads through the station, and just then, overhears a commotion just as Thomas shoots forwards with some trucks heading toward the points in front of him. Neither of them are able to break in time and collide with one another. The Fat Controller arrives on Percy and questions what happened. Thomas explains that the trucks pushed him. The Fat Controller accepts his explanation, but ponders why Norman pulled Dennis’ oil tankers. Norman explains what Dennis told him just as Dennis himself arrives on scene, shocked about what has happened. He then tells the Fat Controller the truth and notes that he didn’t intend for the accident to happen. Diesel sneakingly pulls away Thomas’ trucks as it was part of his trick to go to the Great Railway Show.

At the dieselworks, Dennis tells Norman that he will take his trucks while he is being repaired, which Norman agrees to. Just then, they overhear a commotion inside the works and comment that Diesel might be upset about something. Diesel then comes out with a crate over himself and bumps into some trucks. Both Dennis and Norman then start laughing.
